Bryan Christopher Kohberger, the man accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students, was removed from a county jail in Pennsylvania and turned over to state police Wednesday, officials said. “He is no longer in the custody of the Monroe County Correctional Facility; he’s in the custody of the Pennsylvania State Police,” warden Garry Haidle said. Less than 24 hours earlier, the 28-year-old Kohberger waived extradition in a Stroudsburg courtroom, paving the way for his trip to Latah County, Idaho. Kohberger was arrested Friday in Albrightsville in northeastern Pennsylvania, about 2,500 miles from Moscow, where the students were killed Nov. 13. The suspect was a doctoral student in the criminal justice and criminology department at Washington State University, 9 miles from Moscow.

Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was booked into custody on an arrest warrant out of Moscow, Idaho, charging him with first-degree murder, court records show. He was listed as a Ph.D. student in the department of criminal justice and criminology at Washington State University (WSU), which is 10 miles west and just across the state line from the University of Idaho. Kohberger graduated from nearby DeSales University in 2020 with a degree in psychology and earned a master of arts in criminal justice from DeSales in the spring, DeSales University said in a statement Friday. At the time, the person identified himself a "student investigator" at DeSales University and was using a school-issued email address.
The Coast Guard suspended its search for a helicopter that went down near New Orleans, officials said Friday, dimming hopes for rescuing four people who were on board. A Michigan woman was arrested after she sent months of harassing text messages to two teenagers, including her daughter, officials said Thursday. From Sept. 13, 2021, to Feb. 20, Licari sent hundreds of "mean" text messages to her daughter and a boy she had been dating, Isabella County Sheriff Michael Main wrote in a report. "The messages are specific in nature indicating that they may be from someone who they know," according to the report. Licari said that "she got caught up in sending the messages and it just continued," the report added. The stalking counts carry a maximum penalty of five years behind bars and the computer counts up to 10 years in prison.
A California interior designer was convicted of first-degree murder Wednesday after prosecutors said she killed her butterfly conservationist stepfather when she found nude photos of herself on his computer. Merriman was killed on Dec. 31, 2020, not long after Janks found the compromising photos on Merriman's computer. Janks drugged Merriman and then suffocated him with a plastic bag and choked him to death, prosecutors said. A text message Janks sent to an acquaintance the day of Merriman's death, and shown to jurors, read: "I just dosed the hell out of him." Janks' defense insisted Merriman died from poor health and his own chronic drug abuse.

A wrongly convicted Philadelphia man who spent nearly three decades in prison before his release last year was gunned down while attending a funeral, authorities said Wednesday. Prosecutors charged the FedEx driver, arrested earlier this month and accused of killing a 7-year-old girl, with the alleged sexual assault of a minor, jail records in Texas revealed. Tanner Lynn Horner, 31, had been booked into custody and charged with alleged capital murder and aggravated kidnapping, but Wise County jail records now show he's also facing three counts of sexual assault on a child. The new charges appear to challenge Horner's alleged explanation to investigators for his killing of Athena Strand. Horner had told investigators the little girl was not seriously injured when he accidentally backed his truck into her, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The suspect told investigators that he “panicked” and feared “she was going to tell her father about being hit by the FedEx truck the Defendant was operating,” leading him to strangle her, the affidavit said.
